2009 was a banner year for the DFL as expansion has brought new blood and new competition to the old guard, and the status-quo went out the window.
Heavy 2009 favourites Apple Creek in the East and Mississauga Spartans in the West faced new franchises who were not "just happy to be there." The 2009 finals featured the upstart Kanisa Omegas vs the Mount Olive Triumph, and the latter's name proved prophetic, as Mount Olive Triumph earned a convincing 29-7 win for the 2009 championship.
Since Mount Olive was unable to field a 2010 team the league is now wide open for the taking!!! Who will rise to the occasion? Perth? Toronto East? Was 2009 a Cinderella season for Kanisa? This will be an explosive season, stay tuned.
